Major Yard Renovation in Glastonbury

This back yard retreat was the result of many months of planning and many landscape design ideas and revisions.  As you will see, the end result was quite a transformation!  This was a landscape that was about 25 years old and was not planned or installed very well.  We found many issues with the previous installation and parts of it were falling apart.  I discussed with the client how to reimagine the existing spaces that we wanted to keep, and how to refocus the space toward a new pool area.  We also updated the deck with new planking, railings, and a new staircase.

The first thing to do was remove the old landscape and get back to a clean slate.  Because the old landscape was so large and overgrown it was hard for the client to visualize what the new possibilities were.  This led to a few changes along the way with this build.  Many of the changes revolved around ensuring the flow of the project worked well for the new spaces.

After the new boulder walls were complete, we modified the existing mortared stone walls to reflect the new design.  We were able to reuse much of the old stone material to build the new walls and steps.  We then constructed the new patios and walkways.  Many details were added into the spaces including: a fire pit, sitting rocks, four staircases, and steps to a new hot tub.
